A Case of Mistaken Identity

April 5, 2020

Luke 19:11-20:8

Who they thought Jesus was:

      • The Immediate King vs 19:28-38
      • The Impotent King vs 19:45-47
      • The Inauthentic King vs 20:1-2
  • A right understanding of who Jesus is will authenticate your relationship with Him and deepen your worship of Him.

Who Jesus Is:

I.The Commanding King

A.He Commands Excellence vs 19:15-24

B.He Commands Authority vs 20:1-8

II.The Coming King  vs 19:11-15

A.The Crowned King (He went to His coronation)

B.The Conquering King

      • Has already conquered death

Corinthians 15:55-57

Death, where is your victory?

Death, where is your sting?[a]

56 Now the sting of death is sin,and the power of sin is the law.

57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory

through our Lord Jesus Christ!

      • Will come again as a conquering king!

Rev. 19 11 Then I saw heaven opened, and there was a white horse. Its rider is called Faithful and True, and He judges and makes war in righteousness. 12 His eyes were like a fiery flame, and many crowns[e] were on His head. He had a name written that no one knows except Himself. 13 He wore a robe stained with blood,[f] and His name is the Word of God. 14 The armies that were in heaven followed Him on white horses, wearing pure white linen. 15 A sharp[g] sword came from His mouth, so that He might strike the nations with it. He will shepherd[h] them with an iron scepter. He will also trample the winepress of the fierce anger of God, the Almighty. 16 And He has a name written on His robe and on His thigh:

(after this Jesus defeats the Beast and his armies!)

III.The Compassionate King vs 19:41-44

A.The Weeping King v 41

B.The Warning King vs 42-44

You:  Imaging if you truly knew and believed that Jesus is your King and he demands your very best, that He is coming back for you, and that He loves you enough to weep for you and to warn you of coming judgement so you don’t have to reap the punishment you deserve.

We:  When we spend time with Him, in prayer, in His word, in deep communion with Him, then we’ll understand who He truly is!  Think of how it would change us, and by changing us, how it could change this world!

  • A right understanding of who Jesus is will authenticate your relationship with Him and deepen your worship of Him.
